1 Can I repair this small spall on glass?
I have a screen protector on the phone, but nonetheless, I can see through the protector a small spot about 3 to 4 mm in diameter that looks like a surface spall (piece of loose glass). At one point on the spall itself there is a very tiny chip off the spall, which suggests that the failure occurred when something sharp and pointy hit the screen.
That spall area is still completely functional, both in terms of digitizing and display colors. But I am concerned that over time it might fail to function. It also looks bad.
I have used it like this for months. I do need to replace the screen protector, which is getting pretty ratty on its own.
When I do that, I've been thinking of a way to repair the damage to the glass. One idea I have is to carefully remove the screen protector (holding the spall in place as I peel the protector off). Then while the screen protector was off, I would try to seal the edges of the circular spall crack, and fill the tiny impact point, with the same material that you can get from an auto parts store to fix small cracks and spalls on car windshields. I've done the windshield repair successfully in the past.
Has anyone every tried this, and if so, did it work?
And if nobody has tried it, can anyone think of a technical reason that adding that material around the edges of the spalled might cause the digitizer or display to cease functioning, where now it functions just fine? Or does this sound like a good thing to try?

My initial thought is that you don't want anything to get between the digitizer and the screen. If you are certain that it is only a chip out of the digitizer and not a "hole" in it, then maybe it would be alright. But if it were a hole I'd leave well enough alone. Also if you do fill it in can you ensure that you can get it completely flush with the surface, so as to not create a "bump" or even an opaque area (in comparison to the rest), which would mean that your screen protector would not be flat. It may not be more than an irritant if it did have a bump - fingers are very sensitive remember - , just some things to think about.

I think the surface flattening would not be a problem. I'd do that with the same process used on a windshield . . . you take a razor blade and slice the filler down level with the glass.
But I appreciate your thought about it getting under the glass and between the glass and the digitizer. That might be a problem, and it could screw things up. I hadn't thought of that, and that's why I posted my question to see what I was overlooking. If I do try it, I'd need to apply the filler very carefully, so it would only draw in between the glass edges, and not go below the glass.
