Can I replace just the glass on the touch screen?

Hello! I dropped my phone, Moto X 2nd Gen, this morning, and it absolutely shattered. However, the touch still works perfectly and the screen has no dark spots or inaccuracy. I saw just glass replacements for about 20 dollars. The whole thing is about 100. Do I need to buy the AMOLED+Digitizer+Glass? Or can I just buy the Glass? Thanks!

The glass, digitizer and LCD screen are bonded together tightly by the help of very strong adhesive, and it is very hard to separate neither of them for individuals. Although you can remove the glass from the LCD with special tools as well as professional skill, it is easier and safer to replace the whole assembly rather than just the glass.

Replacing just the glass is very difficult without a special tool called a hot plate.

For one time replacements, buying the whole assembly will be a lot easier and well worth the money.

What does a hotplate look like? Do you have a link perhaps? Thanks!

Not worth it obv if you only do repairs once.

Check this guy's video, then you can estimate how hard it's to separate the broken glass from LCD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N329WsSN...

As Jake and Kristastic1990 explained, I would also suggest you to replace the whole LCD assembly instead of the glass only in case of further damage to the LCD when you're removing the broken glass for the first time. A Motorola Moto X 2nd LCD+digitizer+glass+frame costs about $90 but save you more time and increase high success rate, you can buy the part here: http://www.etradesupply.com/motorola-mot...
