Hi,
Have you tried using the camera with the charger connected and on? Ensure the charger has an output of 5V DC 1A (1000mA). It should be printed on the charger. A PC USB port will not supply enough power to do this check.
If it works, your battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. If it doesn't work the charging circuit in the camera is faulty. The battery may or may not be faulty as well because it hasn't been charged. If you have access to an external charger (see image) you can determine if the battery is faulty or not by charging it and then seeing if it works in your camera.

Hi,
How have you tried to charge it? Did you use a wall charger or did you connect it to a PC? Have you tried a different cable?

I used a wall charger with the GoPro plug and lead, then changed the lead to try a different one. Still no success.

Yes, tried that as well but it still did not charge the battery.

Hi Jayeff Thanks for your continued comments, and yes, I tried more than one wall charger of the correct output, still with no luck. And I bought a new battery. I had a telephone conversation with GoPro support and their final comment was that I need a new camera. As some compensation they offered me a 20% discount on their prices. After this discount it is still dearer than prices quoted by John Lewis and Amazon. I have become quite disillusioned with GoPro and their cameras
