iPhone 5S doesn't charge despite showing the charging icon

I recently replaced the battery of my iPhone 5S. It has been working very well since than and i had no issues.

Last time I dropped my phone from around 1-2 feet. It seemed to me as though the display came out a little bit on the right up corner.

I decided to open the phone again, to place the screen in the corrected position. I only disconnnected the touch ID sensor flex cabel and other than that closed it again after correcting the screen position and reconnectig the touch ID sensor.

The phone booted normally everything was working as expected. It was even connecting and sharing data to the PC.

But it will not charge despite that the iphone shows the charging icon in the status bar.

I recognized that when i dont use the phone to much (3G off, batter-saver mode) and being connected to usb that the battery wont be drained even after hours.

I guess that the logic board gets power from the usb conncetion. But it somehow wont charge the battery.

I even replaced the battery with another one. I had a hardreset and a complete restore of the phone. Changed cables and chargers...

Is this a problem with the logic board? I was wearing a sweater back than, might there be a discharge the cause?

I dont know anymore what to do. Please give me suggestions that could solve my problem. Thank you for reading this very long paragraph. If any other information is needed to help, please ask!

Hello,

I have nearly the same problem.

But there is a little difference.

When I open the Display from the phone and leave all the cables attached, than the battery gets charged!!

when I assemble the display back, than the phone just show me the charging icon, but won´t charge the battery.

What could it be?

Thank you

Serkan

I would look into sending it out for repair (eBay) or replacing the U2 charging IC if you are capable of doing so yourself.

Thank you for the answer.

Till now I havent found a post of the U2 charging IC from the 5S. But I guess it is similar to the 5. But then I dont understand how this one got damaged as it is shielded.

Could the battery be a problem? I mean that the battery destroyed the U2 charging IC?

Always ensure the battery is not the issue first! I only mentioned what I did because I feel you tried everything else. However, it is common for the capacitors (one filter at the top) between the battery socket on the board and the heat shield to be knocked loose or off during a battery replacement and this can cause erratic battery reading/charging symptoms.

OK, I will have a close look on this capacitors on the board first.

However I should be able to chek the battery by trying to charge it manually with an programmable power supply, right?

par

Yes, I just have an external board for iPhone batteries (eBay/China) I plug the batteries into that I hook up to my power supply.

I tested the battery and it can be charged. So the problem must be on the board.

Are there distinct ways to identify, wheather really this U2 IC is broken and not something else like a simple filter?

I also measured the voltage on the battery pins of the board, when plugged in to the lightning charger, without a connected battery. It offcourse wont proceed further then the apple logo.

But i got voltage of 1 V on the battery pins of the board. Is this usual or, does anybody know what a working phone would supply on the jumpstart?
