Home Button and Touch ID doesn't work however there is no damage

A customer of mine attempted to perform their own screen repair. Everything went well for them but their home button and touchID doesn't work. They've handed the phone off to me to see if I can resolve their issue. I figured they damaged the home button some how but I decided to pop it open to see what's the damage.

After close inspection I could not find any damage to the flex cable, chips on the flex cable, or the connector. I'm about 80% sure that the home button is damaged but I want to make sure that I didn't miss any thing before I purchase a new button. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the results of what I've tested:

Headphones - Working

Front Camera/Microphone - Working

Charging port - Working

TouchID - Not working

Home Button - Not working

Below are a few pictures to show the flex and connectors for the home button.

I can see two possible scenarios here.

1) The customer has damage the touch id itself somehow as you have said. Replacing the button would solve the issue with the home button but the touch id will never work again as it is not original.

2) the customer damaged components on the board. If you try another home button and it does not work, this will be the issue. In this case you will need to send it to someone for board repair. There is a link on my profile to help people find a trusted and talented board level tech close to them.

In saying this, these components aren't impossible to replace, so if you have any microsoldering experience you can likely do it yourself. This is the lowest level of microsoldering.

If not, i would be outsourcing it and not using a customers phone as your first try :)

Hopefully that helps!
