Home button doesn't work

I have a friend with an iPad Air A1474 whose home button doesn't work, canned air didn't help. What part requires replacement to correct this? Do I have to buy the digitizer with home button? I saw a part that says "Digitizer with BLANK home button", what does that mean?

It's not clear if the home button on these parts are the mechanical switches or just a cosmetic button cover.

There are 2 types of touch screen you can buy. One has a built in home button. another one where the home button is not included and you actually have to removed the home button off of the broken screen on to the new touch screen.

From what you said there couple be a few things that could be wrong.

First check and see if your home button connector is actually connected. or see if its plugged in correctly.

Two. If the connectors are plugged in correctly then there is a chance of you damaging the home button connector when u removed it off of the broken touch screen on to the new touch screen.

I would suggest you check the connectors and see if its plugged in correctly. If it is connected correctly and you still get no reaction. then i would get another touch screen with the home button attached. and see if it works. Hopefully this helpes with your problem

I don't have the iPad in my possession yet but I'm pretty sure it's the button. I was told that the button doesn't click anymore, it's recessed and doesn't push in much. So the digitizer with button is the one I want then. What does it mean when the description says "Blank button"? Does that mean no button is included? Or the button is included but doesn't have the square logo on it?

Also, that heating pad 'tool' that iFixit sells to help remove the screen.. is that the same thing as the microwavable heating pads they sell in drug stores? I'm curious if it is, then I'll just use one I already own rather than buy a new one just with iFixit's logo on it.

Thanks for the help!

I think blank button means without home button. I would purchase one that says home button included.

As for the heating pads. I think everyone has a different way of opening the ipad. i have a hot air gun that i use. some people use hair dryer. others use heating pads.

But i think the heating pads are simliar in a way. just use which ever one that is more convenient for you. hope this helps
