Not sure if the problem happens with batteries, the power adapter, or both. If the problem occurs when relying on the power adapter alone and you're not using a Dymo power adapter, note that the polarity is reversed on Dymo adapters, such that the positive is outside and negative is inside (reverse from standard polarity for such adapters). Therefore, using a power adapter with a standard polarity configuration will not work on this device.

If that's the issue, you could reverse the polarity on an adapter with a standard polarity configuration (9V, 2A output) by cutting, flipping, and re-attaching the wires. Of course, that adapter will no longer work on devices with a standard polarity configuration, but it should work on the Dymo device.

I can confirm this; Minus is the center hole

par

BTW: it's incredibly easy to reverse the connector leads inside the device so it complies to the more standard positive inside standard (9v, 2 amps max)

I have the original power supply and power pack it just wont turn on it makes a noise when you take the tape out and put it back in?

To use the DC adapter is necessary leave the batteries in ?

@Michael Mosgrove

Try a power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Remove the adapter (if connected) and the batteries from the device and then press and hold the power button operated for a full 30 seconds, then release it.

Reinsert the batteries and check if it turns on OK

I had this problem and changed the crystal oscillator which worked. I ordered part: CFS-20632768DZFB by Citizen Finedevice Co Ltd.

I change the crystal oscilator as per Nada's solution above and it fixed it - Many thanks

How did you troubleshoot it down to this component? Seems like a very odd component to break down that would cause a power failure.

Check to make sure the batteries are charged and properly functioning. If problem persists then please refer to the battery replacement guide. Battery Replacement guide

the batteries have been checked and I have used with the DC adapter many times; as previous post says, it makes a gear noise when cartridge installed by nothing to indicate power on

I have the same problem - tried a power refresh. Tried new batteries. Screen wont turn on, but does turn the gears when a cartidge is reloaded...

par

Same for me. Confirmed I have good batteries, also tried the DC jack but no display. If cartridge insertion switch is pressed it'll rotate briefly.

@adz possible bad contacts on the LCD screen. Could be difficult to clean, but may be possible.

If you remember keystrokes you might try to make it do something without the help of screen just to verify the only issue is the LCD.

Adding this comment for anyone else who has same problem, but I replaced the crystal oscillator per a suggestion that worked for someone else. It did indeed work. I have no explanation for why replacing it fixed the problem as seeing how the crystal oscillator is critical to the power circuit but anyway it worked. Found the part here if anyone needs it. It's a quick fix with a soldering iron.

Part here:

Changing the oscillator did not work for me with the same symptoms. Weird it's just been sat in a drawer and worked last time it was used, so no clear reason why it would just fail. Shame it seems such a waste to bin the thing when it's only had light use.
