If it bugs you, take it to Apple and pay the out of warranty swap fee. The price on an Air 2 LCD/glass will be close to the out of warranty swap price.

Air 2 has a fused LCD, totally different.

You can use a special vacuum lcd table removal to remove the glass from the fused lcd of the air 2. The work is considerably quite difficult and long but you will save quite a bit of money. You will also need uv glue and a cureing light! eBay also has the full assembly for a few hundred dollars but make sure you swap the home button over or you will lose Touch ID

However, if you don't feel comfortable, I'd just let Apple repair it but it will definitely be over a couple hundred dollars .

I'm not sure how your getting my information as SPAM. I try to contribute to many people as possible. You can easily find lcd glass removal separator on eBay or Amazon.

If your tech savvy its not hard you just buy the LCD and Digitizer all ready assembly and just heat the front glass remove it and transfer the Touch ID button on to the new LCD/Digitizer and seal it all back together. But if you're not tech savvy and aren't really good at taking things apart and working with your hands I recommend having a professional do it for you. If you have any further questions let me know.

Hey Gillrios, I was told by a company that replaces Iphone/Ipad screens that it is not possible to replace just the glass screen on the Ipad air 2 because it is fused to the LCD and digitizer, but after reading your post it seems like the person I dealt with may not have known what he was talking about. Is this procedure something that is commonly done at Iphone/Ipad repair shops? Should I be taking it to another shop?

Thanks so much!

It is possible to replace just the glass on the iPhone and iPad Air 2. But the risk factor for the iPad Air 2 is high that's why a lot of shop's don't offer it. I would call another shop and see if they offer that service.

no. no quality shop will take the risk on that. if they fail, they'd have to buy you a new $250 screen. LCD refurbishing is a great thing, but outside of certain "easy" phones, it is too specialized for most repair shops to invest in the equipment. It is something that most cell phone repair shops outsource to a specialist.

Out of the 2000+ shops that post regularly on online industry forums, I don't think anyone is offering Air 2 glass only. Maybe a handful, but it isn't common.

Hey! .

First of all, it is possible, not easy but possible.

Now the reason why you are told it is not possible is because they are fused together. Fused together basically means that LCD and Digitizer is glued together. There are other devices out there on the market that does the same thing ( Samsung ). So the reason why repair centers say they cant do it ( including the one I'm working in) is because it is really really REALLY HARD. The reason for it for being hard is because you have to heat the digitizer up so you can separate it from the LCD.

The easiest route to go on this is to buy an assembly set from either ebay or Amazon.

When it comes to the guide, simply heat up the edges of the screen take the screen off just like you would on an ipad air. Be careful in the button right hand corner because your connectors are down there and you dont want to rip the connectors apart. so tilt the screen out, take the screws out replace the screen and BUM BUM new screen.

Not as bum bum, need to transfer the home button flex cable, not mess up the back-light circuit, AND deal with the poor quality of screens usually sold on Amazon and eBay.

And glass only repair is not just hard to do... it is hard to do *successfully* a separation (without breaking the LCD) then a re-gluing (without getting dead spots, yellowish spots, jumpy screen, bubbles, etc.) of the glass to the LCD. That's the actual reason repair shops don't do it. And like @jessabethany said, the cost of a new complete screen assembly is similar to the cost of out-of-warranty repair at an Apple Store at this date.
