Challenges with installing OS X onto new SSD
My family owns a late 2009 edition of the iMac, and just recently the hard drive failed. I have an SSD that I want to install in place of the failed hard drive. I know that I will need to install OS X onto the computer some how, the only issue is that the superdrive is also broken, so I am unable to use the OS X install disc that Apple included when we bought the computer.
I looked into using the internet recovery mode available to most modern macs, but the 2009 iMac isn't included on Apple's list of compatible computers located here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202313
So my question is what is the best way to install OS X onto the iMac once I've installed the new SSD? I am planning to replace the superdrive eventually, but want to hold off for a few months, so I would prefer a method that would work without using a disc. (I do have a USB-connectable optical drive, but am unsure if that would work for this sort of thing).
Thanks in advance for any help and advice, I really appreciate it!
