Temporary power after water damage

Hello,

I got my iPhone wet by spilling some water on it. It initially continued working for a few hours and then cut out. After that it wouldn't power on, so I ditched it. A few weeks later, I plugged it into a charger and out of nowhere it powered up again. I found that the phone would stay on continuously if plugged in, but when unplugged the phone would last 15-20 minutes and then would cut out again. After this Id have to plug it back in for it to turn on. The phone always powers up again from 0%.

Is this a simple battery fault which a replacement would fix, or could it be more?

Thanks in advance for any answers

Chris

You'll probably need to clean the logic board and the ribbon connectors with isopropyl alcohol and the battery would need to be replaced.

The logic board should ideally be taken out, EMI shields removed and the entire board cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner as well as manually scrub away any visible corrosion. Followed by a thorough inspection to make sure no components are shorted out or damaged.

However, if you are looking for a temporary fix to hold you over for a very short period of time, then a new battery will suffice.

TL;DR - Change the battery, and clean the logic board if you can
