DIY Backlight Issue, any ideas?

A customer brought in an iPhone 6 that they replaced the screen on. From a powered off state when you hold in the power button the Apple logo comes up nice and bright for a second then disappears and the screen goes black.

Looking at the back of he screen I can see the backlight is on but there is no image on the screen. There is no long screw damage, any ideas what could be causing this? I have of course replaced the screen to verify that wasn't the issue.

EDIT:

Connected it to our tech computer and opened iTunes, it tells me there is a problem with the phone and it needs to be updated or restored - trying to do an update now. Still no image on the screen though.

EDIT 2:

RESOLVED. Somehow the firmware had become corrupt when the customer did a simple screen change. Trying to update in iTunes failed but doing a restore solved the problem. Good thing the customer had a recent iTunes backup so they didn't lose data.
