Will it boot from a floppy? Do you get an error code under the sad Mac face?

It has an internal hard drive.....i haven't got a floppy to try.

It was working fine until i hooked it up to an external

hard drive , that is when i got the mac sad face.

First let's identify your exact machine. Have you disconnected the external drive and tried it? What operating system are you running?

Thanks for your reply.

The Mac Classic was working fine.

Loading up from the internal HD

It has 6.0.7 OS.

Unfortunately I hooked up an external

HD without any knowledge of the spec.

of this HD. Once i started my MacClassic

it gave me the Welcome to Macintosh screen

but then it quickly went to the Mac sad face.

It was difficult to get the code but I believe it

was initially 0000000f/00000003.

I disconnected the external drive and restarted

but it will not load up...somethings i get the sad

face and sometimes give the blank screen with

the mouse pointer.

I tried the reset via the interrupter controller but

still no resolution. I have a system floppy disc

on the way to see if i can boot up with the floppy.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bob

Original Mac OS: 6.0.7 Supported Mac OS: 6.0.7-7.5.1, 7.5.3-7.5.5

I assume that you hooked up and external SCSI drive, if the OS was greater than 7.5.5, it would probably produce a Sad Mac face. There were size limitations on hard drives. Has this external ever been successfully used on this machine? We really need as much hardware and software information as you can give, and a bit of time to mull over the problem to remember what the problems of the day were as this machine came out about 1990. I'll try to add to this as I recall issues. If it is giving you an error code that would really help as right now we don't know if it's a hardware or software issue. How recently was the machine running OK? Any know problems with it besides the current one?

UPDATE 6/13/16

xxxx000F Illegal instruction error

00000003

Try restarting the Macintosh with Option and Command keys held down to

rebuild the desktop file (or better yet use TechTool from MicroMat, it's

more thorough). If you still have the problem after doing this it may be

time to do a clean install.

There was no known problems prior to hooking up

the external drive. This I believe caused the problem.
