replaced usb now won't charge

Pins in usb port were bent so I replaced the port and ribbon. USB plugs into it now, but the device won't consistently charge. It starts, shows the battery icon, then goes black again. A few seconds later it does this again, I have disconnected the battery and left it that way for half an hour, and it still won't charge. What else can I do?
