Um, wow. Just to remove the display assembly, you have to pretty much disassemble the whole phone.

You will then have to figure out how to get that piece off of the display assembly, which may be really difficult, seeing as the glass and display are securely glued together (check out step 22 and the associated description). The part is also most likely glued to the glass, and hopefully not sandwiched by the display. If that is the case, carefully use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive and gently pry it away from the glass. For the new part, apply a new adhesive, let set, and put it back together.
Unfortunately, I don't have one to do this to myself, but if you are feeling up to it, and it works, please photo document the process and post a repair guide for others to follow.
In short, is it easy to replace; probably not. However, is it worth it; quite possibly yes.
