What is the best way to replace a cracked screen?

I dropped my iPhone 6s on asphalt a few weeks ago and the screen cracked. Mostly at the top of the phone out of the area where the LCD is, but there are a few long cracks that run down the entire screen. I don't know if Apple Care or insurance from AT&T covers this, but I don't have it anyway. On Apple's website it says it would cost $129 to replace this screen. At a local mall there is a vendor who repairs screens so I asked him how much it would cost. He looked at it and said $150 so I decided to go to Apple. They told me that they would not repair it as there is a small crack in the top left corner of the phone itself and they are not sure whether the phone would stay together after they took the screen out. They offered to replace the phone for $299 which I don't want to do until I'm sure there is no other option. So this is where I need help: How likely is it that the phone really wouldn't stay together after replacing the screen? When I asked the vendor at the mall he didn't raise any concerns about it, but perhaps he's never seen that type of damage before. Should I trust a vendor like that? I originally wanted to replace it myself but I couldn't find an LCD screen that is cheaper than the cost of letting someone else repair it. And someone with more experience replacing screens would probably do a better job than myself anyway.

I also need to replace the taptic engine inside as the phone no longer vibrates. Would it be safe to do this after someone else has replaced the screen? (Open the phone again) Any help on what to do to safely replace my phone's screen or any thoughts on this at tall would be great! Here are some pictures of the screen and the crack in the top left side of the aluminum body:

So looking at those picture it is hard to tell if the crack on the body would hold or not, we don't know how deep it is and what else could be holding the peace on, but with the fact that the Taptic is out as well, and if you don't feel confident in changing the screen that $300 replacement offer seams pretty nice in my opinion, the only thing I am not sure about (as I have never sent something into Apple for repair and such) is if you do open the phone to try to see how bad that crack is they may not take the phone anymore... also do you have the tools to open the phone in the first place?

If it was just the screen I would say do it your self but with the unknowns of that case crack I would play it safe an either take Apple up on that offer or wait (if it still works) for like the iPhone 7 or something.

If you do chose the have Apple replace the phone make sure to backup the phone if it still works

If you decide to open it take some Picture of the inside of that crack and post them here... OK.

P.S. Both the parts add up so about $200 not including tools so...

Hi!

Q: How likely is it that the phone really wouldn't stay together after replacing the screen?

A: Assuming everything is put back together well, the phone should be like brand new.

Q: When I asked the vendor at the mall he didn't raise any concerns about it, but perhaps he's never seen that type of damage before. Should I trust a vendor like that?

A: Assuming that it is just the screen/LCD that is cracked, replacing it should be easy. (When replacing the screen you would want to put tape over it to prevent the glass from shattering everywhere).

You also said that you cannot find an LCD screen for cheaper than the cost would be for the vendor to replace it fully. This makes me suspicious as to what type of parts they would use (New, used, knock off, OEM?).

Replacing the taptic engine should be easy (linked below is a tutorial from a fellow Ifixer): Remplacement du Taptic Engine de l'iPhone 6s Plus

Oh and don't worry, opening up an iPhone several times should raise no problems if everything is done correctly!

Your answer did not mention the crack in the phone's body that I mentioned, so I don't think you understood that part. I have included a picture of the crack that made Apple refuse to replace my screen along with pictures of the screen itself. I need more information on whether the aluminum body will stay together after removing the screen.

Now that I looked again I found that iFixit has an iPhone 6s screen+digitizer and repair kit for $149.95, which is $50 cheaper than what I thought I saw last time on iFixit. So if it's safe to take the screen out I will replace it myself.

Of course I don't really have any other option than replacing my phone. I may as well try. I would just like to know what more people think about this.

Hi! Sorry for that. Looking over the pics that you have added, the crack in the aluminum itself does not look very deep so I am assuming that it would be okay to take apart. However, I am far from an expert on the strength/structure of aluminum so I would reccomed you ask a few more people than taking my word for it.

Actually the same thing happens to me today and I’m literally freaking out right now because this is not even my phone my school gave it to me for school work as a hot spot because I work through TRECA and they also give you a lap top with it, but I don’t know how to deal with my problem. It has a crack in the corner to my home button and one hairline across the screen. What do I do?
