Reference manual or link for Apple Parts?

I'm curious if there is a manual or web site that provides

accurate cross-reference numbers for Apple computer parts for different parts and models. Or is it just a proper google search methodology? This appears to be important for part and computer compatibility. Often, especially on Ebay, the seller requests that you make sure you have the correct part before buying, no returns accepted or restocking fees apply.

For Apple manuals, downloads, support Apple Support and Apple Discussions-you'll have to create an Apple ID (if you don't already have one) but no worries they are free.
