What is your flow rate?

Can someone tell me what the flow rate of the Starbucks Barista made by Saeco SIN006 is? According https://baristahustle.com/espresso-recip... a proper flow rate to get a proper espresso is 200-500ml in 30 seconds. I've tested the same model we have at work and it's about 250-280ml. I just bought a used one on craigslist and the flow rate is just under 200ml. What is normal? If I want more flowrate what needs to be changed on it? Is it the pump?

I've found that the one at home takes very fine grind and a proper 30lb tamp but they run long. The one in the office creates a great crema.

Can someone who has one that creates a great crema tell me what their flowrate is? Thanks!

On the machine side, the flow rate can be influenced by: a failing/weak pump, a leak or a partially clogged boiler valve (scale) or group head screen (coffee grounds). The portafilter and portafilter basket can also become partially clogged with coffee grounds/oils. Any of these would have the effect of reducing the overall flowrate either by restricting the flow of water/coffee it or reducing the amount of available water pressure.

Assuming the machine is functioning properly, there isn't anything on it that you can adjust to change the pressure/flow rate. The biggest factors contributing to that will be the grind setting, quantity of coffee in the basket and the firmness of your tamp. I would recommend having the machine checked out and possibly tuned up, at which point all of the above variables can be checked and verified as good, and you can then focus on your technique in order to produce the shot you desire.

Thanks for the response. All other variables you've mentioned above are the same for my tests with both machines (e.g. just measuring flow rate, portafilter not involved; tamp not involved; no leaks; no coffee as I'm only talking about flow rate) so I think it's likely the pump. I ordered a new pump actually so we'll see how that works. It's an upgraded but compatible pump. .
