CPU Upgraded, do I need to reinstall OS X?

I have just upgraded my core solo to a core 2 duo (Thanks Guys!). Coming from the Windows world, I know that I would need to reinstall my OS otherwise funny things happen. Should I re-install OS X at this point ? (Been upgraded from 10.4 through 10.6.4, so it maybe time anyways...)

I don't think so. I've installed hard drives from diierent machines and different systems into other Macs and as long as the Mac could operate under that system, I've never had a problem.

The answer is: Yes, you should do a clean reinstall. After reinstallation, things like 64-Bit apps, additional app speed (Handbrake, which is my main benchmarking app as it can turn any CPU into a drooling mess) and stability increased. Now, the issue of was the CPU upgrade the cause or the symptom, I do not know. I suspect it was a little of both.

I just did this upgrade and will let you know if I have any problems. But to be safe, it couldn't hurt.

Due to what I was upgrading from, the answer is YES. I went from core solos to core 2 duos. GCD handles differently w/out the multiple cores present if it installs at all. Anyways, I will agree that in most cases the answer is a resounding no. Except I am/was in an edge case where the answer is yes.

Thanks,
