the letter between L & N will not show when key is depressed

Seems like there might be something preventing the keys being pressed under the key. Try removing the keyboard and giving it a good clean with compressed air just to see if that's the issue. For your convenience, I've linked the keyboard replacement guide to help you, should you need it.
