Is it possible to repair the broken Home button?

Block Image

I broke the Home button in my Iphone 5s while I opened it. I replaced it for a new one, but the finger print sensor doesn't work (I know this is common problem) and my phone battery drain off much faster - and very hot when I charge it up - than before. I would like tok check my phone with the old Home button, but I don't know that how do I get started with the repair. Of course if that's possible or worth for trying it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Realistically, no it is not possible.

You are fortunate that the tear is further away from the actual button. Usually, the flex tears close to the button. In theory, if you could re-establish the connections that were severed . In reality, there are 6-8 connections on a flexible mylar strip only a few millimeters wide.

This would be a super challenging, near impossible task for a very experienced micro-solderer. This is clearly not a DIY repair.

You could try to source a broken 5S for cheap and use its button. You would not have Touch ID but you would have a genuine button and that may solve your battery drain problem.

I contacted with an ebay seller and he may sell one for me. I don't know there is why so much problem with the aftermarket buttons.

I didn't try the hard reset yet, but to be honest I'm not sure about it helps on my problem anyway.

Thank you for your advice, I will try it and I let you know about later.

This is possible and practical, not as hard as you suggest.

Hi @tomchai . The Chinese shops do amazing repairs. However, sending a 4 year old 5S to China and back only to fix Touch ID is hardly my idea of practical. @voneout has access to his data and a functional phone.

It is if you live in China and will pay for the costs. iPhone 5s home button repairability is vastly improved in the hands of Chinese (specifically south China) repairmen. Maybe international repairs will be more common and price will be reasonable.

STOP! DO NOT THROW AWAY THE BUTTON! get a microsoldering expert to transfer the NXP chip from this broken one to another used and apple genuine one. Touch id will be retained. If you already threw the home button away, take it out of the trash and guard it with your life. Yes, even if you have to dig through dirty diapers and cold chili.

I dunno what happend, but now my mobile works well. There is no problem with the battery. Maybe because I also upgraded the iOS and it updated itself. Thank you anyway.

but if you use another home button, you'll NEVER be able to use touch id. unless you take that button BACK OUT and do the nxp chip transfer and put it back in.

What about the hard reset or if you remove the battery while you change the button? ( I forgot it)

par

that doesn't work. I know a guy who knows a guy who is an apple engineer, and I'm asking the middleman questions related to the touch id pairing, so he can relay them to the engineer. But I do know a hard reset wont work by itself. Until I get more info from the apple engineer, (I'm working on this issue), the only home button that will work is the one with the original nxp. You must do this soldering procedure.

the engineer played dumb and wont tell me anything about the touch id. But, big surprise.

It is possible and practical. There are people offering to reconnect the broken cables in China.
