brandonj984 a bit more information would be great. What lights up? What have you checked? What have you tried?

brandonj984 just like anything else, you have to start checking somewhere. Use the flowchart as the beginning of your repair.

It might also help if you post some images of what your boards look like. Use this guide for that. I will allow us to see what you see.

I have not been a fan of repairing plasma TVs. They do have the best picture and color. In your case I would guess the power supply board has problems. Even if you repaired this, you will also need to replace the buffer boards. The buffer boards are those that light the screen. So, to save money, these are not really feasible to repair. Thanks for asking, Matt of Martins TV Repair.

@roundrock just to clarify this for myself. You are saying that a repair will not be economical feasible, but to replace the TV?

Yes that is true. Plasma TVs put out a lot of heat. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics. Many times in plasma TV repair it is common to replace three boards. This is expensive, then you do not know how much longer the TV will operate properly. A spent plasma screen can really stress the power supply and its buffers. So while this is happening, its possible the screen may be slowly shorting out. Matt of Martins TV.

@roundrock so does that mean you do not repair them at all? What would you do if I bring one of those 50747 to you for repair? what would you tell me?

I'm going look at the model number and year of manufacture (how old is this TV). Is this under warranty? Gather a history of that particular model from service techs. In plasma TVs the power supply is usually the first stressed component. You may have a lot of questions....but you have to start with model numbers and when it was made, and its history . Thanks for being interested.

If this TV is indeed a plasma as you say, repairing would be greater than a new TV. The power supply would need replaced as well as two buffer boards. The buffer boards (these illuminate the screen) are shorting and will take down a power supply. Than there is a good chance the Y board is bad....the horizontal screen problem. Plasmas are great when they are working, and most cases are not feasible for repair. I don't believe they make plasmas anymore. Thanks for asking, Matt of Martins TV repair.
