Why do I get msg. that my phone is not compatible with Samsung Kies 3?

I installed Samsung Kies 3 to use with my Note 4 and I keep getting the message that it is not compatible with my phone, or something to that effect. It does eventually complete task, in spite of this message. Any ideas why or suggestions?

Options

The most likely cause of this is either a faulty USB cable or faulty USB/charge port on the phone. Both are relatively easy to replace. Try the cable first, then this guide..
