Why can't I get service on 2G cellular "no service"
My wife's iPhone 3G was a hand me down from our 26 year old daughter, it was available following an 18 month contract upgrade and has been unlocked by O2 which is confirmed by iTunes. It is in mint condition apart from a small crack in the rear casing top left, this is only visible because it is white.
The phone works well on 3g and wi-fi but 2g (cellular) connection response is 'no service'.
I have tried swapping SIMs with my iPhone which can find 2g but same problem, not a SIM problem.
Have tried resetting network and even erasing everything and restoring, even going to 'recover mode' once.
I am pulling out what hair I have left, can anyone tell me if this is a mechanical or a software issue, the carrier (Vodafone) claims it is the phone but my daughter says it was fully functional with her carrier (O2).
I have even replaced the entire dock unit including the antenna, no difference.
Oh, even dowloaded the configurator to set up another 'profile'.
HELP!!

just an idea but have you checked cellular coverage in your area for this?

I am eternally grateful for your response in this great big wilderness called the world wide web but please read what I said: "I have tried swapping SIMs with my iPhone which can find 2g but same problem"
Does that fact that we get 3G on Sure Signal mean that both antenna are fine but for some reason the 2G signal isn't being received on one of the phones due to a handset problem?
I am mystified..
