Apparently the switch that indicates that DVD drive is fully closed needs tweaking. I can hold drive closed manually, but would like to be able to adjust drive closed switch. Does anyone have instructions for opening HP DV9000?

1. If the drive stays closed for a while and later opens up by itself (in Windows) try the following. Go to the device manager, find the CD/DVD drive and uninstall it. Reboot the laptop and let it reinstall the drive.
2. If it doesn't help, probably this is mechanical damage. You'll have to replace the drive. You can find drive part number and replacement instructions in the official HP service manual.

Thanks, problem is item 2. It acts like the closed switch needs tweaking. Not sure if I can remove drive and then bend something. I can use drive if I hold it 'very closed', sometimes I can even release drive and it continues, but issue is mechanical.
Having look through most of my manuals as well as actually having looked at a broken laptop drive that I have I do not think that you get to fix the mechanical part of the drive. I believe that you due to having to replace it. Sorry and good luck.
thanks, probably isn't worth repairing. I will use an external drive if I can't adjust what I've got.
