Hi,

I don't know your laptop, but looking at the DC-In jack power plug cable it appears that it only there to connect the charger to the motherboard, so you should be able to start the laptop on the battery.

Update (03/26/2017)

Hi Jeff Lee

If your battery is low do not try to charge it out of the laptop as doing it this way will bypass the battery management circuitry (and protections). Wait until the new DC-In jack spare part arrives and is installed before charging the battery. Also do not run the battery flat in the meantime.

Hi Jeff,

If the battery is low or not holding its' charge (how old is it?) that might be one reason, that is why I asked in my comment to your other question to try it on the charger , but if it cannot charge properly or even run on the charger due to a faulty DC-In socket then that will have to wait until it is fixed before it can be disregarded as the problem and then other causes sought.
