Why my ring tone doesn't work although the mobile is not silent?

I have a problem with my Sony Xperia M2 mobile phone. The ring tone is mute although the mobile isn't silent, whenever I receive a contact , the mobile doesn't ring as if it were silent, I really need help, what shall I do?
