Case warping

The thin piece of metal above the release button (the button that releases the screen when the laptop is closed) has bent outward. I think this is do to poor handling, but I'm not sure if this is something I should worry about, and if there is any easy way to fix it. I have tried bending it back, but with out taking the laptop apart I don't think I will have much luck with this. So is this worth fixing, or will it just be a minor annoyance?

Bowing of the thin piece of aluminum above the latch release is a common occurrence, and is often related to stress or damage on another area of the bottom case - this is the weakest portion of the bottom case, so the force tends to travel to it.

It is not too difficult to loosen the top case, lift it up, and work the bent piece back into shape. You will not make much progress without moving the top case out of the way first (there is a bit of a rim which will prevent you from moving the aluminum in enough otherwise). Be sure to use something soft, like a wooden tongue depressor or medium hardness plastic spudger.

Take a look at the following ifixit take-apart:

You can stop when you finish step 8, and simple rest the top case against the display. There is no need to remove the top case completely.

To put back in place this curly little piece of metal use a drop or two of super glue. You can glue the part to the metal frame. Cut a wooden popsicle stick in two, apply the glue between the aluminum part and the metal frame then install wooden sticks in front of the aluminum part and rear of the metal frame then use a small visegrip to hold the parts together for about 15 minutes. Top case must be lifted.

This method also work with PB G4 12/15 inches.
