Damaged screen display cable. Is it easy to replace myself?

So i've fitted a new hard drive for IMac mid 2010 21" edition. Upon putting everything back in place i've struggled to insert the screen display data cable into his port. Upon proper Inspection it seems that part of the pins in my socket is damaged.

This is what it looks like.. proper damaged right?

The port for the display cable on the logic board looks fine to me. Thoughts?

I've found the part on Ebay and wondering if its fairly simple to replace myself? local shops have quoted me £100 to repair and i'm by no means rich but brave enough to give it a go. I ask because I don't want to cause any further damage to the unit.

Thanks in advance!

Hey Samuel!

With any repair you run the risk of damaging something in the process. It looks like you were the victim of that with this display cable, and you run the risk of damaging something if you swap the cable.

That being said, I think you have it in you to do this repair! Especially since you have already damaged something, I think that you will be extra careful this time around.

So I opened up a newer iMac and saw the other end of this cable was not shrouded in tape, which means it is a quick fix. Before purchasing any parts, try to investigate and see what both ends of the cable look like. If it is easy to access the port on the display, I say purchase the part and get this repair done! If it is buried in tape, do a little investigating to see if it is easy to uncover the port. If it looks like it might be a huge ordeal, then letting the repair pro's do the repair isn't the worst idea.

I think this is the part on Newegg too: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...

Let us know what you find!

Hello! Thanks for the reply. Thats a very true point. I was moling over whether or not to do it myself and did a panick buy without really looking at the other end of the cable. I pray its a perfect match.

My version of thedisplay cabled attached to the LCD seemed to be covered by a black tape. I was initally weary of removing this :s

Thanks again. I will update my post once I've made the change to th cable.

Hi, i have the same thing going on, imac mid 2011 21.5. I ordered the cable from ebay, i will report if it worked or not.

I was having trouble putting it back, i don't think i damaged the conector..

I wasn't actually pushing it to hard, but the plastic which is in line with cable connectors metal pins broke in the corner. Pins on the cable conector are not even bend !

.

Guys, the connector has like two thin metal parts on both sides, they need to slide in the conector first, if not do that first, when they slide you can feel that, don't just wigle, it has to SLIDE, and when they are in, then is no more wiggling possible, then you press a little..

Concentrate on the left part of the conector first , because of the position of the cable, naturally the left side of the cable connector is gonna be further from the bord ( not parallel with the board and conector on the board).
