Should I upgrade my logic board

I have a PBG4 titanium dvi #A1025 867. It's a dinosaur, nothing is supported any longer, websites won't work, programs are no longer supported etc. I have a brand new hard-drive and just installed the new 512 RAM, so I'd like to keep running this machine. If I upgrade the logic board will that help solve my problems? I can only upgrade my OS from 10.3.9 to 10.4 with this machine and would like to run something more contemporary.

You can only take it to a 1 GHz machine which would allow 10.5.8. Your machine will take 10.5 now after the RAM upgrade but it will be slow:

Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:

A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor

512 MB memory or more

A DVD drive for installation

9 GB of available disk space or more

The cost would be about $475 for the 1 GHz board. At that price you can get a low end MacBook with an Intel processor. http://www.gainsaver.com/Catalog/List.as...

Your planned upgrade to 1 GHz will probably disappoint you. The speed improvement will not be stupendous over your present 867 MHz board since the system bottleneck will be in the RAM, bus, and hard drive. I also have a Powerbook Titanium 867 MHz like yours, and upgrading RAM to 1 GB (the most it can take) was the best cost effective upgrade I made on it. There are 2 RAM slots that can take 512 MB each. If you want a more modern, updated Operating System, Leopard OS (but not Snow Leopard) can also be installed in this model. Frankly, though, I'm running Tiger in mine and find it adequate for my needs. It has all the available and pertinent software updates installed from the Apple website, and I've also installed Camino browser in it. Camino works faster than Safari, if you ask me. Hope this helps.
