Internal Microphone not working.

I bought this Iphone 3G as is. The glass screen was cracked and the internal microphone is not working.

I replaced the cracked glass myself. But I am at a loss of what could be wrong with the internal microphone?

The speaker works though. I tried reconnecting the dock ribbon cable many times, but the microphone still does not work. I also used a can of compressed air to blow at the microphone, thinking since the phone was originally dropped and the glass cracked, there is a good chance dirt might've entered the microphone grill. But that didn't work either. The microphone does not register ANY sound at all. Not even in the voice memo app. Or any app for that matter, UNLESS I used the headset microphone.

I am thinking of ordering a complete new dock connector assembly, but I just wanted to know if someone had a similar problem and had it fixed and how?

This iphone 3G is jailbroken and unlocked. IOS 4.2.1

It was jailbroken via Redsn0w and unlocked using Ultrasn0w. But I don't think the internal mic has anything to do with this. The speaker works, the microphone does not. If I plug in a headset then the mic works via the headset mic.

Please help.

Thanks

Update

I just received my Iphone 3G Dock assembly. Used the ifixit dock replacement guide and replaced the entire dock assembly. Put everything back together and Tada! It works! The only problem is Cable 4 which connects the Dock to the logic board. This cable unclips by itself sometimes. Have to find a sure fire method to securing it.

But the Problem got resolved when I replaced the entire dock assembly. :)

If the speaker and mic were working before the drop then it is likely that replacing the dock will solve the problem. I don't see that the ios or jailbreak is the cause unless this problem existed before the drop. As the part is available fairly cheaply it seems reasonable to replace this first and then go from there.

Just ordered a full replacement dock assembly for the Iphone 3G. Was cheap $13.99. Hope I don't destroy the iphone while I replacing it. :P

My iphone 3Gs microphones started buzzing badly and the person I was calling couldn't hear me very well, then the microphones stopped working completely. Tried removing and re-inserting the sim card but that didn't resolve the problem, then I charged the phone and that didn't help either. I blew on the microphones just to see if that would help, maybe there was dust in the mic's. I made a call to my wife and the speaker still buzzed a little, so I BLEW ON THE MIC'S AGAIN AND THAT MUST HAVE CLEANED AWAY ALL THE DUST, NOW THE MIC'S PICK UP MY VOICE JUST FINE! I have been keeping my phone in a felt lined case that clips on my belt, I think the lint from the case was clogging the microphone. Very HAPPY!!!

Same problem here. I don't think it's the hardware that's faulty.

I've jailbroken my iPhone 3g with redsn0w and updated the baseband to iPad's 06.15 in order to unlock it with sn0wbreeze. After custom instal of iOS 4.2.1, I lost internal GPS and the microphone. I can hear people at the other end but they can't hear me :-(

Fortunately it works fine with tomtom iPhone car kit via buetooth.

I've searched the net and tried all possible solutions without luck. Then I tried re-installing custom iOS .ipsw few times and the one time after complete instal, microphone was working fine but I lost it after a day or two. I can't recall exactly if iPhone crashed or if it turned off but when I turned it back on the mic was gone. I reckon it's a bug in 06.15 baseband that messes up all 3G's. Avoid at all costs!
