Check the vbatt line first to make sure there is no short on it.

Test for heat out of a component. I do this by plugging in the battery and charge port ans then connecting to a charger. I generally find that when a pmic has gone in a samsung, an inductor gets hotter than the IC. Just use schematics to trace it and see if it does go to the IC.

Most samsung service manuals suggest changing pmic with power problems.

If you get stuck, let me know

Hello there!

I've got stuck on the same part as OP of this topic.

At the fact I've got 2 mobos of N910F version and one get stuck on about 150mA and the second on about 40mA after shorting "power button" pins.

Is there any schematics where I could find pmic chip or a name for it? If it is near EMMC memory it could overheat as RAM does.

I hope that someone gets to this.

Maker,

I have found N910s and and N910H schematics as well as the full Samsung troubleshooting proceedure documents relatively easily. Unfortunately I was never able the find the American versions I need, N910a and N910t, nor do I remember ever finding the F. The troubleshooting proceedure is the same for all models, but unfortunately the board layout varies greatly, so all the reference points mentioned in Samsung's S or H document do not line up for the US LTE or Europe LTE hardware.

I've found something like this for 910F - didn't read it yet http://www.mediafire.com/file/wed09l83ud...

That link is for the N910S, the Korean version. The board layout will have most of the same parts, but in different areas and orientations compared to the N910F. This is really the constant frustration with Samsung boards... you often find a close schematic, but not the exact one.

Ouh. Sorry for that. Here is for F version that I'm currently using:

Hello Mike,

Diagnosisis this issue properly on any device would require a more step by step approach.

However for the note 4 specifically I have seen 3 boards this year that all pull 0.15A from a power supply and do not charge batteries or show any signs of life. Two of those we repaired by replacing either th ET3152 charging controller IC or the PMA8084 Power management IC. Unfortunately I see we ordered both of these parts this year and it's been awhile, so I do not remember which of the two was eventually used. I am certain two phones had identical IC failures though.

The third phone we ran out of time on and never tried to fix.

It's a great start. I'll order those parts and try to replace them after consulting with devices service manuals.

Is there any chance to manage it without BGA template?

Well, there are eBay sellers advertising Note 4 BGA Stencils. But there are only so many different ball pitches and patterns for these chips. If you have other stencils for a different model, something may be close enough to do the job.
