USB's not working, unable to use any inputs

So I received my new motherboard with damaged USB 3.1 connector pins on the mobo. Asus was friendly enough to tell me that the warranty provided with the motherboard isn't actually a warranty, just a useless pamphlet preventing them from being sued, in other words, they won't do anything. My computer seemed to work fine with the damaged pins, excluding the case USB's. Well Windows decided it needed a software update and when I came back none of the USB's work, meaning I can't use my mouse or keyboard. It is extremely frustrating as I have tried using different keyboards to no result. I tried a power cycle, CMOS reset, all to no positive outcome. I am about ready to declare Jim dead, but I need any last minute expertise. (Normally I would just replace the mobo and move on with life, but I'm a broke college student who can't afford that).

Exact same issue here tonight. So frustrating. Got an old PS2 keyboard and trying to figure out what to do. I have checked the connections and nothing has changed since it worked perfectly last week.

I didn't see the Windows 10 update happen, but maybe that's the reason?

Glad to find your post and I hope we both find an answer.

Barry

Best of luck to you man, I found out the USB 2.0 port by the DVI-D connector and USB C connector will work. You may be able to connect a hub or purchase a PCI to USB hub. That is what I am going to dp until I can purchase a new mobo.

He wouldn't be able to re-install drivers as he can't access anything due to bot being able to use an input. I noticed a single USB 2.0 port works at the top of the board by the DVI-D connector, and the USB C connector. Maybe you could run a hub to use. Thats what I am going to do until I purchase a new mobo. Screw ASUS.

He finished the diagnosis today: motherboard failure. Called Asus and it has a 3 year warranty so they gave me a RMA number and I'm shipping it to them. They'll send a new one.

In the meantime, my guy installed a bit 'lesser' board to get me back in business until the new Z270e shows up and we'll put that back in.

He was able to use the USB-C connector but the computer wouldn't respond to a flash drive plugged into it. It crashed hard.

Lucky, I can't RMA it, even with the 3 year warranty. Only have to option to spend $350 to get it fixed.

I’m not sure why. They gave me no hassle as it was only a month old and the warranty is for three years.

The board is only $180 brand new so don’t do the $300 repair :-)
