D70 & D70S CCD interchangeable?

Hi -

Does anyone know if the D70S CCD is a "drop in" replacement for a defective CCD in the older, straight D70?

Thanks!

Steve, I do not think so. The difference for the LCD between the Nikon D70 and D70s is the bigger LCD 2.0" vs. 1.8". Good Luck...OOOPPPPSSSS sorry Steve was not sure what information you needed anyhow here are the dimension etc for your cameras CCD :)

Image Sensor:

D70: RGB CCD, 23.7 x 15.6 mm; total pixels: 6.24 million

D70s: RGB CCD, 23.7 x 15.6 mm; total pixels: 6.24 million

D50: RGB CCD, 23.7 x 15.6 mm; total pixels: 6.24 million

Hope this helps

Hi - Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was looking for info about the CCD sensor inside the camera - not the LCD display on the rear of the camera. No problem though, as I recently learned elsewhere that the CCD in the D70S is NOT interchangeable with the D70.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve look up :-) got the info for you on my answer.

The sizes are the same, however nobody would attempt to desolder / solder the sensor component to the PCB. The CCD is generally considered the entire assembly consisting of the CCD sensor component and supporting components on the printed circuit board (PCB). It is the entire assembly that I was hoping to determine to be a drop in replacement or not. There's a very nicely done guide on this site (link below).

Nikon D70 CCD Board Replacement

The link shows the whole procedure - complete with most helpful photos (which I used to perform the task). The CCD PCB is shown in the last step if you want to see it. As I found out after receiving an answer to the same question posted elsewhere, the D70S CCD Sensor PCB is *NOT* compatible with the D70 (at least that is what I was told). Again, thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear that. There is always a catch to any upgrade and usually just minor changes prevent us from reusing parts even if those are identical. Guess everyone has to make money. Anyhow, hope you will find a way to get your camera fixed and accomplish your task. Good luck.
