Please Wait -Very Low Battery?

My iPod 5G Video has an intermittent left hearphone channel. Opened the chassis to make sure the headphone jack hadn't come loose.

I reassembled the iPod according to iFixit's instructions, and now it won't power up. I opened it back up to make sure the ribbon was reconnected properly, reconnected it, still no go.

When I plug it into my laptop, the display dimly reads "Please Wait -Very Low Battery."

Everything seems to be reconnected properly. Is there anything you can suggest?

I've had that a few times - 99% it's the brown plug as stated above. When that ribbons in the 2 white lines on it are not visible when the connector is open and when it's closed the bottom one lines up with it.

Karlbloom,

Have you ever replaced the battery? I would start by replacing the battery. If your earphones weren't working you probably should replace the hold switch audio jack assembly at the same time and you will have a working iPod. Be sure you carefully pull up the brown plug before removing the ribbon for the battery and snug it back after you replace it.

Good luck and please let us know how you do.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

i broke the brown clip and my ipod stopped working. I bought a broken ipod off ebay and took off the brown clip (which by the way can only be done SAFELY by completely disassembling the entire device).

Okay i lied a little bit. I first bought a broken ipod, but it was the wrong Model order (MA450TTY/A vs. the correct MA446LL/A. the former is TECHNICALLY consider a 5g, but is more of a 6g prototype.) (update: ok there is an identical brown retention clip inside ma450tty/a and the 6g, but they are a unforgiving B**** to open. check the ifixit guide for yourself)

anyway my ipod works now and you, Neil (and Marc), are my personal hero

btw, i could've bought the brown clip battery connector assembly by itself for like 5 bucks (http://www.shopsparts.com/ipod-video-5th...), but it was located overseas and it would've cost 26 dollars in shipping just to get it in 2 to 6 days. Plus, being located overseas would've meant that tiny package would most certainly gotten lost. so i went to ebay and bought an identical broken ipod for the same price (29.55) with free expedited shipping.
