Why does my laptop shutdown or even won't turn on?

My laptop is acting strange, when a I remove the battery and plug the ac cord can not be turn on, as is no ac power is connected, I disconnect and connect the ac power until the blue leds turn on and then it starts up normally windows xp, but all of a sudden it shutdowns turning off everything.

please help to determine if this is a motherboard issue.

armando, does it function normally on battery power?

No with the battery it won't turn on
