Greyed out wifi - replaced antanna flex cable

HI,

I have come across the wifi issue - where the Wifi icon is grey out.

It started with Wifi icon grey out, and restarting the device sometime works.

But it is completely dead - Bluetooth button is no greyed out but even its on theres no connectivity.

The device also not able to accurately detect my location.

After much research, I narrowed down to the possible fix of replacing the antenna flex cable.

Took me about an hour and some sweat to get it down last night, restarted the device, issue still exist.

Question: should I both with trying to replace the wifi antenna piece? or it is pretty much done deal - get over it

Brought it to Apple they did the diagnose, as expected, they confirmed the wifi failed - asked ~$400 to get a replacement iphone 6.

Just want to get you guys thought on next possible fix, if there is any

You can try these things. Make sure to backup your data first. However it's most like going to need microsoldering to replace the wifi chip. Which in that case you'll want to send it off to a reputable board level repair shop

Reset iPhone Network Settings. Settings — General — Reset — Reset all Network Settings.

Erase all content and settings. Settings — General — Reset — Erase all content and settings.

Restore iPhone. Plug iPhone to Mac/PC, and then launch iTunes.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried reseting the phone network weeks ago - no luck, and have been avoiding restoring/erasing the phone as I strongly believe it is hardware issue - since the wifi didn't died one day but was working part time for like 3 weeks before it completely died on me. I had also not upgraded iSO/install new app while it was having issue. Also didn't erase the phone as I do not have access to a laptop with 100gb of free space, unfortunately.

I may consider the microsoldering - would you happen to know where about I can find a store? does regular repair shop does it?

Thanks

@theimedic is correct, it is the Wifi IC Chip that either needs reballed or replaced. Reflowing will not work due to the underfill on that IC. As for shops that do it, you can google for a local one near you or look through the Ifixit business (Pros) section to find one listed here: https://www.ifixit.com/Business

I wouldn't do a reflow at all. It's going to fail again if you do that. I know I can recommend @refectio and @teetopp they both have shops that you can mail the phone into, and they're both microsoldering repair shops
