Loud Speaker Not working

Hello

Was hoping you could help me out with a Loud speaker issue i'm experiencing.

The phone was purchased with the intent on replacing the loud speaker.

First impressions were to clean the ports for dust, however no results.

Upon opening i noticed the Red moisture tab which has made me worried. Phone works perfectly and was bought under the conditions it works fine and just needs a new Speaker so hoping theirs no serious moisture damage. Once again everything else works perfectly just the loud speaker.

As i was removing the screws by the charging port i noticed 2 screws missing which are supposed to hold the speaker down?

- one which holds the speaker to the frame towards the bottom and is the last screw to remove when replacing. Just by the charging port.

-Second missing screw was one closest to the bottom holding the metal wifi plate which has 3 screws.

Replaced the speaker with a new one and still no results. Could the missing screws be causing the issue?

Also as i was removing the 2.7mm screw on the taptic cable engine bracket near the port i accidentally used to much pressure and lost the thread on the screw so was unable to remove it, Not sure what to do about that now. Will have to be taken to repair shop with the right tool by the looks.

So had to somehow maneuver the speaker out pulling beneath the wifi bracket.. Could damage have been caused to the new speaker when pushing it in place as it was pretty tight and my finger managed to touch it few times..

Any advice on what could be causing the loud speaker not to work?

Hopefully no board damage as everything else works perfectly from headphones etc

Thanks for your help in advance

Missing screws from speaker are the 1.7mm screw and 2.6mm screw. Hope that helps.

Will reset or restoring the phone help with the speaker at all

3rd screw missing 2.7mm from lower right of the speaker. So only 3 screws holding speakers. 3 closest to the bottom are missing

re fitted the speaker, checked contacts, pins etc carefully however still not working.

Will try a new speaker and fit screws this time. Will update results for future reference, in case anyone decides to follow this

With water damage (and yes, you have water damage!), you have to decontaminate the logic board before doing anything else, otherwise there will be latent issues down the road. This is what you are seeing. The water didn't kill the phone but is still causing issues. New issues may crop up with time.

The screws on the loudspeaker insure that the the metal contacts are properly "connecting" electrically.

  • Open your phone and remove the logic board (follow this guide)
  • Inspect the logic board, especially around the connectors and look for corrosion.
  • Inspect both sides of the board. Unfortunately, most of the board is covered in shields. That's usually where the damage is occurring.
  • Put your board in a container with >90% isopropyl alcohol and let it sit for a while.
  • Use a soft brush, like a toothbrush and lightly brush away any corrosion you see.
  • Rinse in alcohol and repeat.
  • Let it air dry for a day.
  • Re-assemble and hope for the best.

If that doesn't work, then a professional repair shop that does water damage repair may be able to recover your phone because they have access to pro-level ultrasonic baths and specialized cleaners as well as the skills to troubleshoot your board. Many shops have a no fix/no fee policy so you don't have to spend money to find out if the phone is fixable or not.

Thanks for your message. Was hoping the board wasn't damaged however seems to be the case and as you mentioned as well it's probably best to proceed with step of cleaning thoroughly to reduce chances of more problems appearing later..

Safe to say i'm familiar with the process of repairing water damage using Isopropyl, it's a straight forward process if i remember correctly. I'll replace the speaker screws with a new set at the time and also consider sending it in to the professionals if the issue persists as they have the right tools to take care of it, Really hard to go wrong with the No fix no fee service..

Anyway appreciate the advice, gives me some peace of minds knowing you guys are around. Will report the results soon.

Best Wishes

You might have had a damage on the charging strip near the loud speaker connectors.
