Jabra Rox earbuds wont power on issue

hi there everyone.

I've had a pair of Jabra Rox Bluetooth earbuds for a while now and recently I've come across an issue which many people have run into. they just won't turn on!

so without being plugged into anything, the earbuds don't turn on at all. when you plug it into a wall/ computer the LED on the earbuds turn red (charging indicator) for 1 second for it then to turn green (fully charged indicator). while the jabras are plugged into my pc I hold down the turn on button for a few seconds. my pc then makes a ding noise indicating that the pc detects the earbuds. but from that still, nothing happens.

any ideas about my situation? I would love to hear them.

thanks in advance

~Finn

Hi Finn, did you manage to figure this out? Thanks

Hi Finn, did you manage to figure this out? Thanks

sounds like a potential battery issue, as with any batteries they will eventually fail. try contacting the manufacturer to see if it is covered under warranty.

Hi Dimitar! Thank you so much for posting the solution! I'm lucky I wasn't the only one who had this problem. Honestly, I could have done a better job putting it all back, but I'm.not complaining. My earphones work, that's all that matter, and it's all thanks to you. God bless you, man!

Hi

I was in the exact same situation with my pair and since they were already past the warranty period I decided that I had nothing to lose and simply disassembled them. As I was expecting it turned out that the reason for this behavior was the battery (actually there are two 3.7V VARTA CP1254 batteries in parallel) but not because it was dead but simply because it was depleted bellow the threshold that the charging circuit will allow you to charge it. If you are familiar with li-ion batteries this is a common situation when you leave them not charged for a very long time and the phantom drain or simply the time passed depletes them bellow the threshold. The way to "revive" such a battery is to jump start it from another battery - no need to be the same one - simply anything with the same voltage and equal or higher capacity will do. In my case I used a random IMR 18350 that I had laying around from my Zhiyun gimbal. Giving it a couple of touches for a 5-6 seconds each raised the voltage from the 0.67V dead state to the reasonable 2.8V state. After this I simply plugged in my USB charger and instead of going to green in a second as they did before they kept on charging for a couple of hours and only then turned on the green light. Then I turned them on to check if they were working and surprise - all is fine. I've been listening to them for more than an hour now and the battery is still at 90% in my Android phone Bluetooth settings and the headphones themselves say "Battery full".

How were you able to disassemble the ear buds, were the battery in both the buds or only in one, please show me how to disassemble the same.

The batteries are only in the right earbud (the one without the microUSB charging port) and the actual disassemble process is ... well ... a bit savage ... You take a very thin razor (I used a scalpel) and gently cut all around the earbud between the metal cap and the plastic base because there is some (a little) glue that spilled from the inside. After this you jam in something thin and pointy (like a very small watchmaker's screwdriver) and not so gently pry open the earbud. The are two short clips/hooks that and two longer ones that are just for support - they don't hook to anything - check out the last two photos to see their exact position. After this you scrape some glue from the inside and you'll be able to take out the two batteries.

Here are some pictures that will probably make my explanations a bit more clear.

It would be great if you make a video about how you fix it......

I'm sorry but I've already assembled them and even put some glue so until they stop working again I don't plan on disassembling them soon. You'll have to do with the pictures I've shared above and if it's about the actual jumpstarting of li-ion batteries itself you can find a lot of videos showing the process online.

par

I want to ask about the process of jumpstarting the batteries. What exactly do you mean by "giving it a couple of touches" ? Do you really just give them a few touch with the battery or do you need to create a circuit?

i just purchased a refurbished pair of jabra rox earbuds from BuyDig. same problem. BuyDig kindly replaced the defective set. however, the replacement set had the same problem, namely charging lights (red to green) go on but nothing happens when pressing the multi-function button. i tried different usb charging sites. nothing.

i noticed this post on facebook and it seems this may be a rather common issue with these phones:

This Facebook post link takes to nowhere, could you please update it?

Seems the facebook link was deleted. The short of it was people would get phones that when plugged in to charge would immediately go from red to green. Although 'Green', the phones were not charged and they didn't turn on. I went through 2 refurbished sets like this before the 3rd one worked. One thing that was brought up was if the phones aren't used for an extended period the battery could die and no longer charge. So if you do get a set of these phones, use and charge them periodically to maintain the rechargeable battery. If you buy a refurbished pair where the battery can go bad from sitting on the shelf, buy from a reliable source, like BuyDig, where they will replace them if non-functional. Frustrating experience getting a working pair, but BuyDig did all they could to make it work. Good luck!

BTW, I do not work for, nor am I associated with, BuyDig.

I did follow what's being written above. It works now, but the battery life is not as it should be. After maybe 30 minutes 9f use it says recharge it plz. And ONE more thing! After disassembling and reassembling the right side bud had no voice at all, after few times of opening and closing the the right side's case, it produces a lowered volume voice. What's happened to it? Any tricks or ideas?

Regards
