Surface Pro 4 screen replacement

So I recently purchase a SP4 bundle with a typecover and after a couple month of using i crack then screen, and decide to replace it, so i went on ebay and order a sp4 screen+digitalize model #1724, and process with the repair, and after i remove the crack screen and install the NTrig board to the new screen but the connector on the bottom doesnt match the flex cable. So i when online and check and i notice that my cracked screen looks alot like the new sp(5) screen model# 1796. Is it possible that a sp4 is using a sp(5) screen? also would it be cheaper if i just find a new flex cable for the model #1724, and is all the connect on the motherboard the same?

SP4’s old screen manufactured by Samsung have borned issue. Many user suffered screen displaying failure after the machine heats up and there’s no way to fix it but to replace a brand new screen. But Samsung’s pannel always have the same problem so Microsoft changed the screen of last batch of SP4 from Samsung LTY123YL01 to LG LP123WQ1, which is same with the SP5’s to totally resolve the problem. The flex connector cables are not the same because LG’s eDP connector have more pins.

The model number of flex cable also different. Samsung’s cable is M1010537-001 while LG’s number is M1010537-003. Connector to the motherboard looks the same but since the scrren side is different, you can’t replace it by another one.

Hi,

No, the screens aren't interchangeable. The pcb connector on the LCD flex on the sp5 is bigger and won't work with a sp4 LCD. The digitizer flex cables will all work but the LCD will not.

Ive seen what purport to be surface 4 screens for around 120 on amazon, but I dont know if they really are the correct ones. (You have to be careful buying LCDs)

To avoid the problem in the first place, I use a glass screen protector on all my devices. Ive broken many of the protectors, but the screens are always fine. (except on the Nexus 5, where the mid frame is weakened by the holes for the sim slot and volume buttons and cracks in half, taking the display and digitizer with it That issue is solved by a ridgid case like the ones from Spiegen)
