Why does my printer keep saying offline?

My Epson Workforce 545 is connecting to our home network through our wifi, with an IP address.

The printer works beautiful, except for when it isn't used for a couple days, which it will say "Offline". Troubleshooting in Windows 10 just says it's not powered on, but it clearly is. When I check the network status on the printer, it says still connected. I'm unable to ping it when it says offline.

Sometimes rebooting the router will cause it to come back, but usually I have to remove the printer completely, and re-add it manually using the IP Address. It doesn't come up as an addable device for some reason, which is the reason for manually adding it.

One possible fix I found said to go to the port configuration and disable SNMP. (SNMP Fix Tutorial)However, when I click on "Configure Port...", I get an error. Also, the port name is very odd looking.

I have a picture of the error located here = Port error

Is there something I can do to resolve this that I'm not aware of?

Update (01/15/2018)

Thank you for the response. It makes complete sense.

So I deleted the printer, and re-added it using the hostname instead of the IP address. I have the epson software already installed, and it says all drivers are up to date. When I try to run the Epson Event Manager, with the printer added, it says

Block Image

And I still get the following error when I try to configure the port =

Block Image

I will let you know if/when it goes offline again.

This issue started before I ever started using the IP address to add it.

Thank you again for responding.

This "offline" error occurs because you are using the IP address directly and not the network name of it (usually EPSONXXXXXX). There is a "DHCP Lease" that expires every so often. This lease tells the network to assign a specific IP address to the printer until the lease expires, then the IP can change, and in your case, it looks like it does frequently.

I would suggest deleting the epson from the computer, trying to download the latest driver, an run the network configuration again. Make sure the Epson Event Manager is installed, so your computer can communicate with the printer. Allow it through your computer's firewall.

Physically on the printer, one of the network menus will show you that the printer has a name of "EPSONXXXXXX". Use this instead of the IP address if possible.

I spent 90 mins with Epson support and they didn't figure it out......wow, thank YOU SO MUCH!!!

I use a static IP address for the printer. It should not make a difference if the DHCP lease expires. still experience the disconnects every so often. Powering the printer off and on resolves the issue.

Same here - as this has become extremely stressful & a pain in the ***!

It actually almost made me want to RETURN this printer! We have the Epson ET-2760 version & it does the EXACT SAME thing; every 2-6 hours... literally we use it every day and so every morning I must re-enter the password to our internet connection using the arrows on the LCD screen--- it's had me in despair & desperation in moments of high stress when needing an immediate printed invoice etc!

I was 3 steps to returning this to Sams Club - GRATEFUL to find someone else whom has had this EXACT issue & a solvable fix!

Not sure how easy the fix is; however better than returning the item I HOPE!

We shall see if this works for us!

Thanks again.

I get this problem too - never buying an Epson again

You should not have to power it off and on. You should not have to constantly reinstall the printer. That's exactly the problem we are trying to fix.

par

this is the dumbest solution on the internet.

par

So your solution is to constantly restart the printer, which is what we already have to do and are complaining about? No more Epson printers, ever.

I tried everything suggested on all these boards and FINALLY solved my epson wf 3620 always losing connection to my wifi after 2 days. I called my tech support at my internet provider and mentioned to him what was happening. He took a look at my modem remotely and saw that my 2.4 and 5g were bouncing back and forth between the two trying to make one connection because ,my two computers were logging in at 5g because I selected that rate, whereas the printer can only connect at 2.4, so he adjusted the setting in the modem to create both a 5g and a 2.4g out to the internet so my computers use the 5g and printer the 2.4. I HAVEN’T HAD A PROBLEM SINCE, plus streaming movies has eliminated buffering issues almost 100%. I hope this helps.

After reading this, I checked my wifi rate. It was at the 2-4 ghz signal. I deleted the printer from both Windows 10 PC and MAC pro, added the printers, and both were able to print. My printer is an Epson ET 4550

par

Separating out the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands on my WIFI router finally fixed it for me! Now my Epson stays connected on the 2.4 Ghz band without dropping.

par

Wow thank you so much for sharing your solution!! Been dealing with this for so long i get nauseated at the thought of having to print. Thanks to all the people who posted!

Try this, like on the screenshot its a WSD, click on “add port”, then chose standard TCP/IP port and add him with his IP Address. After that select the new created port”192.168. x. x” and choose, configure port… and disable SNMP protocol.

Worked for me

I have an Epson St-M3000. It loses it's wired network connection after about 30 minutes. I must press the button on the printer to re-initialize the connection. This is unworkable in a school environment. My HP, Canon and Ricoh printers never lose connection to the network.
