iPhone 7 Plus home button not responding after screen replacement

Hello.

I replaced a screen and LCD for an iPhone 7 Plus and it seems as if the home button is not responsive.

When it's asleep I hit the home button and it doesn't wake. When I hit the power button it wakes up. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

I'm using an iPhone 6 Plus and it wakes up when I hit the home button.

It stays showing this.

Did you also replace the touch ID button with a new one or the same original one? Also, did you make sure you attached the button cable correctly when you replaced it?

par

@kmkz I purchased a home button replacement. Is this considered the "Touch ID button"? If so than yes. I tried 2 replacement screens with original home button and new home button on both and no luck. Yes the cable at the button that connects from the home button to the LCD is snapped in correctly if that's what you're asking.

Are both the screens from the same supplier? If so, you probably got both out of the same bad batch possibly, if you bought the screens for cheap, they could be low quality aftermarket parts.

par

The answer is very simple- there are 5 screws and the one that goes behind the home button is shorter than the others. Do not mix the screws up and you will not have an issue. Hope that helps ya'll

Probably a defective screen if the home button physically looks fine.

Have you tried using the old screen to see if the issue occurs there? You may need the front camera plugged in at the same time for touch id to work too.

I already replaced the front camera flex. That's how I was able to get the phone on. But for some reason the home button is not responding. It also feels real snug like. Like I can't push it down for some reason? Maybe the cables? Screws too tight?

par

The home button will not respond physically as it's not really a button on the 7 plus. The feedback you feel is from the haptic feedback when you touch the home button, so the screws arent too tight or anything like that. Id do as Ben suggested and put the old screen back on. The replacement screen may have a bad home button cable connect or the cable itself that runs behind the screen is bad.

I have an extra replacement screen I could try? The customer took the original screen after I removed it. Should I buy a new home button?

par

Buying a new home button won't help.

Only home button that came with the phone will work.

Try another screen if you haven't already.

par

Ok I will try another screen first. Although I did buy a new home button. Why do they sell them if only the original home button will work? Lol.

What would happen in an event the original home button got damaged?

If you have damaged the original flex cable to the original home button, or cannot get it to work… You need to get it operational for your customer. either take it to an apple store and pay an outrageous amount to have them replace the screen and reprogram a new home button OR order a third party replacement port with button here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DOh4Us6...

It's an option to consider but it does have some faults for now, according to Rewa's website. Still, it's an interesting approach and it looks like China is way ahead of everybody else in finding technical solutions.

Now it has upgraded version, here is the product link: http://bit.ly/2q5JcuW

Make sure that you use the original home button that came with the phone and that it is not broken. If all this is done currently try to change the proximity front camera flex. Strange enough I’ve tried it and it worked. Good luck

I've changed the front camera flex cable and also tried a new home button along with the original home button on a NEW replacement screen. So 2 screens. Original home button and new home button. Still doesn't get it to work.

Help! I don't know what to tell the customer!!!!

Any other ideas nothing has worked so far.

I tried 2 replacement screens with original home button and new home button. Each transition I ensured the home button was attached (snapped into place via ribbon) to the LCD from the home button. I'm out of ideas.

A new home button will not work. What I will do if all you said above is done is check to see if the phone is still under Apple care warranty and see if the customer is willing to go to them. you might need to waive the Repair fee for the inconvenience. If not you can go yourself. If it’s not under warranty Apple charges a fee to reprogram the home button so it can work again. Please let me know what you did and if this was helpful to you. Thanks

You might have tore the original home button flex cable. iPhone 7 and 7 plus home button is not user replaceable. Once you tear it or damage it, a replacement button will not fix it, as the button is unique to your specific logic board. Only Apple can resolve this issue if the original button is in fact damaged.

I currently have the same problem with a customer's 7 plus. Performed a flawless screen replacement only to find that the homebutton is not responding and that the touch screen is erratic in that response to touch is on and off. I have performed many screen replacements and found that these problems are caused by the replacement screen. I am currently awaiting a new one.

Did you use heat from a hair blower to loosen the hot glue before removing home button and camera flex from original screen?

I use a heat gun at 100 degrees and hold it about two inches from the button for about 15 seconds and carefully peel it off. I don’t want to burn the broken screen, especially if the lcd is good as it’s refurbishable or still good for buy backs from parts suppliers. If you’re using aftermarket screens with cheap aftermarket ic’s you may likely deal with erratic touch. Especially recently as apple made aftermarket screens unresponsive with some model iPhones with specific versions of iOS installed. Make sure the firmware is updated to latest iOS. But ya, be as careful as you can possibly be when removing the home button. It’s imperative. Email me at Technibility@gmail.com if you need any help or have any other questions.

First make sure that your home button was not broken while doing the install. Look very carefully because some rips on the flex sometimes can be hard to see. Second try another screen and make sure you are using the original home button that case with the phone. I would also reinstall the broken screen and see if the home button works. If all fail try to update your phone on iTunes. I would even try to back up and restore. Unfortunately replacing the home button will not help. Your next step would be taking it to apple for help or use a third party so that fixes home button for iPhone 7. Hope this helps. Good luck

You probably did everything correct. Its the home button and new screens. There not paired to the motherboard. Every part from home button to screens, are chipped and paired to your original motherboard. You need to bring it to Apple and have them pair the new parts to the mother board in that phone.

I also recently changed my screen on a iPhone 7 and the home button Touch ID did not work, I tried everything to try and sort and nothing worked . Then I thought of doing a software upgrade, so I done it and all of a sudden my Touch ID worked. Try this and hopefully this will work for others
