MacBook Pro stuck on startup screen

I restarted my MacBook Pro. It goes to the startup screen and loads to 100% and stops. I have tried all of the possible startup possibilities, but it doesn’t respond to any of the key combinations. It won’t even start in safe mode. It loads, but is completely unresponsive to anything I try to do.

The only response I have been able to get is with an SMBC reset (option + control + shift + power button).

I read through the forums about this issue, but it seems that most people could at least start up in safe mode. Can anyone help me out with this issue?

You will need to try to boot from an external USB device with a know good operating system on it. Plug it in and hold down the Option key and select it. Then go to Utilities > Disk Utility and see if the internal storage media can be repaired.

Thanks for the response. I was able to boot from an external hard drive and run the repair. Everything seems to be normal.

I believe the problem might be that there is not enough memory available to boot properly. I recently transferred a large load of important files to the computer and made space by moving a bunch of old files to the trash. However, I didn’t have a chance to empty the trash.

The external hard drive I booted with has a backup from 2 years ago (the one with my recent backups recently crashed and is inaccessible).

I believe if I can delete the files in the trash folder it might fix the problem. However, I am still unable to boot up in safe mode and am unable to access the trash folder to delete the files by booting with the external hard drive.

Is there another way to access the HDD files?

Tried Verbose mode as well. Says “Waiting for DMOS... crashed: opendirectoryd. Too many corpses being created.”

It just keeps crashing over and over.

Just ran a file check in single user mode. It says “The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.”

Apologies - but this should NOT be listed as “solved.”

We have “SHOULD” suggestions … assuming it’s the SSD.

ALLOW ME TO CONFIRM:

— MULTIPLE SSD drives that boot other IDENTICAL model MBPr CANNOT boot this machine.
