Help! My DFU is messed up and I am locked out!

Hello! I recently started a project to fix an iPhone 3GS for a friend. I repaired it just fine, but then to boot it up and find that there is a passcode on it! Yaaaaay..... :( My friend does not know the passcode, and my iTunes is not synced with the device, so my only option was to use DFU mode, one problem though, when I try to enter DFU mode, the phone just straight up refuses! It will boot up, and stay at the apple logo for a couple of seconds after vibrating (beacuse it is plugged in to my PC). I cannot try to guess the password as the phone just says "Phone Disabled, Connect to iTunes". If anyone knows how to fix this, please help. Thanks!

Turn your phone on. Press the power button to lock the screen. Press the home button to wake up the phone. Keep repeating this process over and over.

If the screen reliably locks every time you press the button, then the power button is reliable. If it does not, your issue entering DFU is that your power button is not reliable enough to be held down during the procedure.

If the screen reliably wakes every time you press the button, then the home button is reliable. If it does not, your issue entering DFU is that your home button is not reliable enough to be held down during the procedure.

If either of your buttons is unreliable, you will need to fix that hardware problem first before attempting to get the phone into DFU.

OMG I THINK MY HOME BUTTON IS DEAD! I hadn't had to use it so I overlooked that! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out one of the home button pins were bent! Thanks!

Your home button pins are touching two metal contacts inside the phone. Connecting these two points with metal tweezers is essentially the same thing as pressing a working home button. If your hands are steady, you could use tweezers and the power button to get the phone into DFU now. Remember the phone must be plugged into the computer to enter DFU. Be extremely careful not to touch anything else inside the phone with a metal tool so long as it has a battery or cable attached. Metal tools + Charged electronics = Risk.

Did you do iT excactly like this?

Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode,.

Sometimes you just have to try a few times.

Yes I did, also, when it boots up, iTunes says "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because it is locked with a passcode, You must enter the passcode to use the iPhone with iTunes"...

Then your not in DFU just recovery...

Plug the iPhone in to your computer.

Turn the screen on then hold down the sleep button for 4 seconds and the slider will appear.

Once it's off hold down both the sleep button and home button for 10 seconds (the apple logo will appear and then disappear a few seconds later)

Once the Apple logo disappears count 2 seconds

Still hold home but release sleep for another 10 seconds.

If the screen is off and you don't see the Apple logo you're in DFU mode.

From there, restore.
