iPhone 7 LCD Screen and Digitizer

Why is the iPhone 7 LCD Screen and Digitizer priced so high here at ifixit? with a price tag of $84.99, everywhere else I check prices range from $34-$50 with $34 being the average price at the moment, are you guys getting the parts directly from Apple or are they aftermarket ? If it's aftermarket what separates yours from all the others out there and can you provide a serial or model number of this LCD screen / digitizer? BTW the highest price I see at amazon is 64.99 but that's a full assembly with tools and screen protector.

I can't speak for iFixit but I have ordered parts here in the past, and continue to do so. The main difference is written up over on this page. In a nutshell, you are paying for a vendor that does thorough quality control of their parts and really stands behind them if you ever have any issues.

When you see stuff on Amazon or eBay, you are generally seeing the bottom of the barrel parts. These are the parts that pretty much every other major vendor has refused. Vendors do random checks of available lots and if the defect rate is higher than they'd like to see, they will pass on the lot. It doesn't mean they are all bad though and doesn't mean there aren't any good parts in those lots.

So yes, you could save money by buying on Amazon. If you have a tight budget or don't want to spend too much on an old phone, by all means order those parts. But there is a very real probability that you will receive a crap part and if you do, you may have a hard time getting an exchange or refund.

Yea I was reading around a bit and someone mentioned etrades, so I looked them up and found the LCD screen / digitizer there and I see a bunch of different grades the highest is a S+ for for $81 and a S for $64 I'm trying to save a few bucks so I'm wondering now is the S+ Necessary ? The only difference is glass and flex cable OEM and OEM-compliant, what's the difference between those 2?

Some of the better known vendors in the US are iFixit, Mobile Defenders, MobileSentrix, InjuredGadjets, eTradeSupply. OEM Flexes are thicker and more resistant to tears and have better quality soldering for the connectors. OEM glass will be stronger and less brittle. OEM LCD's will have better colour response, viewing angles etc. Most importantly, you want a cold pressed glued (CPG) versus hot press glued screens as they will last longer before the glass separates from the frame.

Everything has a price, you just have to pick based on your needs.

If you buying only single piece I would suggest you get it from iFixit, better to pay a bit more bucks for a quality assuranced screen, but if you’re buying for certain quantity, you can get them from the source manufacturer as they could supply you the same quality screen at a bulk price, but you need to qualify them by yourself.I’m not judging anyone but I know most US suppliers they imported from factories.
