flashing question mark on start up. Unable to access utility by mouse

So, I've been able to restart my computer by holding Command _R and getting into the internet restart process. Now i'm in my utilities folder and trying to repair and use my airport backup. The keyboard works and I can shift between selections. The mouse is a different story. The cursor hovers in the upper left by the apple symbol. I've restarted the mouse several times and even tried a different mouse with no effect.

The enter button doesn't make the highlighted selection effective.

Anyone have any ideas to move forward on this? Thanks!!!
