Extreme shock sensitivity - phone restarts frequently

Hi,

Since a couple of days ago my FP2 can't handle being put on the table. It restarts immediately. It's had problems with shocks/pressure before, but not to that point. E.g. when I had it in my pocket and would lean on a table thus squeezing it, it would restart. Now simply putting it down on a hard surface already makes it reboot.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Clara

Solution retenue

Hello again, thanks for your suggestions. In the end and after cleaning all the contacts without success, I found something in another thread that helped: I folded a piece of paper several times and put it between the battery and the outer case of my Fairphone. Since then, no problems anymore! Sara, maybe this could help you as well.

Hi @clairesoleil ,

Has the phone been dropped recently or gotten wet at all?

How old is the phone?

There is a 2 year manufacturer's warranty on the phone. If the phone hasn't been dropped or gotten wet or been generally mishandled then I suggest that you verify the purchase date of the phone to ensure that the warranty period is still valid. If it is still within the warranty period, then consult the manufacturer's warranty statement as to what you have to do to make a claim for a possible manufacturer's warranty repair or replacement.

Hi! I have the same problem as claire. My phone is more than 2 years old and I have dropped it a few times (not on purpose of course). According to your answer do you think that my phone can't be fixed?

Thanks for help!

Hi @sarasphone ,

Given the modular construction of the phone it should be able to be fixed. Finding out what the problem is may be the hard part.

You could try tapping (very, very gently) the phone in various places, with the handle of a small screwdriver or a pencil etc, to see if you can "make it happen". At least it might narrow down the problem area

The easiest way is to contact a Fairphone service centre and ask for a quote. They should have all the parts available to more quickly find the problem.

You could try the solution below and see if that works in your case.

Hi Clara,

It sounds like power to the phone is being disconnected intermittently. A simple thing to check would be to remove and reseat the battery to see if that is the culprit. This guide will show you how.
