i purchased an iBook that was marked up cosmetically and had some marker on it. I cleaned it off without thinking lighter fluid would destroy the finish. Any ideas as to how to get some shine back to the surface of the white cover and bottom?

My first thought is to buy replacement plastic parts, as dead iBook G3s can be purchased for next to nothing on eBay, and the back of the screen casing is very easy to replace.
Beyond that, buffing/polishing it might work. Also, there are some clear liquid plastics out there which coat a surface and leave a very glossy finish.

you could try a polishing kit like this one, or I'm sure there are others too.
