Why my Keyboard is not working?

Hello

Please i need some Help , Last Month suddenly my Alienware M18x R1

keyboard and all the function buttons around it stopped working i don't know why

One day i did a restart and suddenly not a single key is working including the volume

buttons , CD eject button , etc

All the laptop Keys and Buttons is not working includes the mini Keyboard on the left side , the only Button that still working is the power Button and i find that strange because the power Button is located in the same

frame as the Volume and CD Buttons and this frame around the keyboard is using the same cable to attache to the motherboard so why only the power Button still working and the Buttons is dead .

I don't know if i replaced the Keyboard and the frame around will fix the problem

a friend of mine told it may be a Motherboard or a chip problem .

So i was hoping for someone to help me to diagnose the problem so i can replace the correct parts and get back the keyboard because right now I'm using a USB keyboard

Thank you in advance for your attention and any help will be much appreciated

Regards

if the laptop keyboard is not working either, then perhaps the fault may lie with the operating system and not the physical keyboard.

I would attempt to enter the bios during the boot sequence.

If this is successful, then look for system tests and see how you get on.

Something to try:

Hold down the BIOS key while you power ON.

( BIOS is invoked with F2, F11, ESC, DEL, or whatever Alienware uses)

Hold it down until you hear/see HD activity.

You should see "Keyboard Failure".

If BIOS does not see the keyboard, all keys on the entire machine, are dead.

The POWER switch is un-related to the keyboard.

Lets hope it is a simple loose cable.
