How can the Memory Maxxer RAM upgrader work in my MacBook Pro?

I was told by Apple, that I cannot upgrade the RAM in my laptop to any more than the total 8 RAMS I already have. I'm try to run graphics programs (Photoshop, Lightroom or anything else), and it slows or seizes up my computer. Can I really upgrade with the Memory Maxxer RAM Uptrade kit?

I've also read about gfxCardStatus download, but it apparently doesn't work on my laptop because I don't have dual GPU's. Please help me to figure out if there's some sort of a workaround so I don't have to buy a new computer. Thanks!

Jo

Apple limits it’s testing at the point of the products launch. So when higher capacity memory came out they did not re-test so what they go by is what they have tested.

As you can see here in the link I posted above your series (as well as the lower end models) supports more RAM than what Apple published. Now there is a caveat here as some earlier system could only go to 10 GB and other all the way to 16 GB. You do want to fist upgrade your MacOS to Sierra (not High Sierra) as during the upgrade process the systems EFI (BIOS) will get updated.
