Screen fades/distorts and back to normal after moving or squezzing.

Hi,

After many years of using my Macbook Air, some strange thing starts happening on my screen.

Background info:

Model: MacBook Air 13'' mid 2012.

Mac was never repaired and the screen is original.

It was not dropped or damaged in any other way.

Now info regarding the problem:

Happens randomly when the screen is moved/opened/closed.

External monitor works without problem.

Took a screenshot when the screen faded out and the screenshot is fine.

Strange thing is that after the screen goes nuts, you can fix it by squeezing the lid or applying pressure by bending it slightly. After squeezing and moving screen starts working normally (sometimes it takes 15 min of moving and bending the lid till it finds a perfect spot).

Attached short video with the problem (here it was fixed very quickly). Do you think it might be repairable without replacing the whole screen?

You have a faint line down the middle which is the clue your display got a good bang. The driver logic on the back side of the display has been dislodged just enough that when you twist the lid the broken connections touch enough to get the display to work again.

Sadly you’ll need to replace the display assembly. Here’s the IFIXIT guide you’ll need to follow to fix your system: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2012 Display Assembly Replacement and here is the needed part: MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2012) Display Assembly
